§ 01 · The Demographic Engine

900 million more consumers by 2050.

In 2000, 600 million people worldwide were aged 60 or over. Today there are 1.2 billion: 15% of the global population, growing around three times faster than the under-60 cohort. By 2050 there will be 2.1 billion, more than 20% of humanity.

This is not a forecast that depends on technology adoption or policy. It has already happened: everyone who will be 60 in 2050 is alive today.
